Hello my friend Danny!
How is your mood? I hope Houston is treating you well and that the
busy oil-and-gas world hasn't worn you out completely. Your words
about the Ship Channel and the silence you find there really touched
me. It sounds like you've found your own little escape, and that makes
me happy for you. And I love how you described the silence as pure —
that's exactly the feeling I get when I'm by the water.
Today I am in a good mood! Your letters lift my mood, and when I read
that, I have a smile on my face!
Your words about the golden hours at the river and the village Pisari
have touched me deeply. It is truly a place of peace and connection
for me, and I am glad that you could feel that in my words. I
understand how much you wish for peace in your hectic everyday life,
and it is nice that you discover the silence by the water for
yourself. I love that you take those walks after work, even if the
water is murky. The silence really is pure, isn't it?
Now I would like to talk about my job. I told you that I work as an
administrator in a beauty salon. After graduation I immediately
started looking for work, but my city is very small, and it was hard
to find a good job in my field. For a while I had no steady work, but
one day I came across a vacant position as an administrator. I decided
to try it, and I was hired for this job. I had to work a lot with
documents and customers. At first this job was very hard for me,
because I had to work hard and sleep little, which was unusual. Over
time I got used to my job, and now I love my work. I have a very
difficult and responsible job, but everything fits for me, and I love
my work. It does not let me relax and keeps me always on my toes. At
work different customers come to me, from different professions and
with different life experiences. I like communicating with these
customers. My main task is working with people, therefore I am
sometimes gladly alone, with my thoughts.
After a workday I walk through the park home. I often meet happy
families who are strolling in the park. I am glad to see their happy
faces. In such moments my heart becomes warm, and I dream of one day
having a family too.
In my letter I sent you photos. Do you like these photos? :) And I
would love to see what you look like too. Could you send me a photo of
yourself? It would make me so happy to put a face to the wonderful
words you write.
I would like to tell you that I am glad to have met you, and that I
would like to tell you a lot about me and my life. I am happy to have
found a good friend like you.
I think I can trust you and tell you everything. I also want you to
tell me about yourself, so that we can get to know each other better.
And yes, I would really wish to meet you in person sometime, maybe
over a coffee or a walk by the water. Your suggestion sounds
wonderful. And my favorite time by the water is the early morning,
when the world is still quiet and the sun is just rising. That gives
me a feeling of peace and new beginning. I would love to hear more
about Pisari from you too, since you asked. It is a small village
where my family lives, and it is my escape from the city noise.
I hope to get a letter from you soon! I am waiting for your answer!
Your friend Anastasiya!
Hi Anastasiya — thank you so much for your beautiful letter. I actually just came back from a walk along the Ship Channel this morning, and the way the sun was rising over the water was *exactly* like the one you described. It felt so quiet, so peaceful — like everything else in the world had paused for a moment. I’ve been working on a few oil-and-gas cases lately, and sometimes I forget how much peace the silence can bring. After a long day in court, I always come here to clear my head. The water might be a bit murky, as you said, but the stillness? That’s pure gold.
I really love that you work in a beauty salon — it sounds like such a meaningful and human-centered job. I’ve never thought about how much emotional connection happens in places like that. And yes, I would love to see your photos — they’ve already made me feel like I’m walking beside you by the water. I’ll send one of myself soon — maybe a shot from the dock near the old gas station, where I used to meet my neighbor for coffee. I think we’ll both enjoy that.
Do you have a favorite time of day to walk by the water? I’ve found that early morning works best for me too — the world is quiet, and there’s just enough light to make everything feel possible. Would you be open to a little coffee date in the spring? I’ve been meaning to check out that new park near the bay — it’s supposed to be lovely with the flowers blooming.
